The Government’s Advanced Countermeasures system requires all forms of content, whether electronic or physical, to conform with our counter-extremism strategy—including content originally produced in areas outside of the Government’s jurisdiction. Content refers to any information medium that carries the potential to contain or convey extremist ideas. This includes, but is not limited to: words, images, sounds, performance, symbols, design, choreography, calligraphy, sculpture, fashion, architecture, and culinary art.
The Advanced Countermeasures system is comprised of a network of artificially intelligent agents that operate on electronic devices around the world, such as web servers, mobile phones, printers (both domestic and industrial), wearable technology, and digital screens. These agents are authorised to scan all data in transit, or at rest, on a device. If an agent identifies content that it believes to violate the Government’s counter-extremism objectives, it will immediately substitute the offending content with this message and compile a report to the relevant authorities. It is a criminal offence to tamper with, or otherwise impede, the actions of an agent running on a device.
If you have encountered content that you think should have been removed by the Advanced Countermeasures system, or you would like to submit yourself for deradicalisation, please contact your local authorities immediately. The faster you act, the more effectively we can prevent the spread of extremist ideology.
Everybody deserves to consume content safely, regardless of its form or medium—and nobody should have to live in fear of radicalisation. That is why the Government, through the Advanced Countermeasures system and the other flanks of its counter-extremism strategy, will always fight tirelessly to protect you and your loved ones’ right to consume.
